About: Plums are a “superfruit”, packed with disease-fighting antioxidants and vitamin C. Plums belong to the Prunus genus of plants and are relatives of the peach, nectarine and almond. Prunes are dried plums.
Nutritional Information: Plums are a good source of Dietary Fiber, Vitamin A and Vitamin K, and a very good source of Vitamin C.
Storage: Store at room temperature until ripe. Once ripe, store in a plastic bag and refrigerate.
Tips: To halve plums, make a horizontal cut all the way around the fruit, twist, and remove the stone with your fingers. To peel plums, drop them briefly in boiling water and transfer them to an ice bath. Their skins should slip off easily. After peeling, immediately return them to the ice bath to prevent discoloration.
Quick Fix: Slice plums thinly and top with cooked green beans, pesto, olive oil, lemon and Parmesan cheese.
